Description

BM SUMER Consultancy & Research originated from the consultancy B. Mutlu Sumer Professor, C Ing., based in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark, active (by the time of the foundation of the firm BM SUMER in 2015) already over more than 25 years in Coastal, Offshore, Hydraulic, River, and Marine Civil Engineering, with specialty areas such as scour / scour protection around marine and hydraulic structures; marine soil liquefaction and its implications for marine structures; current and wave loading on and hydroelastic vibrations of marine / hydraulic structures including pipelines; river engineering; coastal and river sediment transport.

Professor Sumer was joined by Dr. Ozgur Kirca in 2015 to set up BM SUMER Consultancy & Research, which is affiliated to ITU ARI Teknokent, a technology and science park at the Istanbul Technical University. BM SUMER Consultants, covering the same specialty areas as mentioned in the preceding paragraphs, employ cutting-edge methods and technologies, including advanced mathematical/numerical modelling, as well as physical modelling studies, in their research and consultancy work to achieve the most optimal solutions to engineering problems.

Personnel

Professor Sumer is one of the leading engineers / scientists in the world in seabed-structure interaction including scour / scour protection in connection with offshore wind farms, marine structures and pipelines; liquefaction of marine soils and its implication for marine structures; forces on and vibrations of marine structures including marine pipelines. His specialty areas also cover turbulence in coastal and civil engineering, river engineering and sediment transport. He has done consultancy work in projects worldwide. He was previously Professor at the Technical University of Denmark until he retired in 2015. He held the position of Professor Emeritus at the same university between 2015 and 2017.

V.S. Ozgur Kirca, co-founder of BM SUMER Consultancy & Research, is currently an Associate Professor of Hydraulics and Coastal Engineering at Istanbul Technical University, Department of Civil Engineering. He has published over 60 scientific papers, and has been involved in many international and national research projects. He received “2014’s Outstanding Reviewer Award” from ASCE Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering. Dr. Kirca was involved in numerous international consultancy works for the industry in different aspects of Coastal, Offshore and Hydraulic Engineering. His expertise includes seabed-flow-structure interaction, turbulent processes, sediment transport and morphodynamics, physical and numerical modelling of coastal/hydraulic processes, design and assessment of coastal protection structures.
